Campaign Finance
Note: Next campaign finance filing is 3/28 which only covers thru 3/23. Any Developer or Dark Money spent in the last 9 days will go un-detected by voters. Check back for updates. In fact, candidates Brandy Williams, Parth Melpakam and Lee Lemkuhl, in this cycle, did not report their Housing & Building Assocation donations when the other 4 candidates did. They were awarded by February 27th. What does developer-related mean? We include real estate, corporate infrastructure partners, and any contract-related entities. The reason is in the 2023 election, we were informed that developers tell their contractors to put signs up for their candidates and "encourage" they support them. In that election, over $1 million in developer + Dark Money donations were made to secure 4 Councilmember seats. The PPAR is a lobbying PAC just like the HBA and are often on the same team. Developers hire realtors to sell their inventory. Additionally, the YIMBY movement that pushes the overbuilding is backed by the National Association of Realtors and asset managers like Blackrock. Lastly, former PPAR board members are part of the CSURA board (that approves taxpayer funded URAs for development. This seems highly relevant.
Integrity Matters Survey Answers
4 attempts were made to remind Ms Henjum to respond. She did not respond to any of them beyond asking to see the survey, and then, clearly deciding she did not want to answer those questions.
Though she has publicly stated she is taking no "real estate developer" donations, that's not what we see. She was endorsed by the HBA in her last run for office with about half of her donations coming from developers.
Voting record items that may be of interest:
-
Her most controversial vote was the censure of Councilmember Donelson in which Ms. Henjum played a starring role.
-
Voted Yes on Ovation development on the same dead-end road she had denied Kettle Creek 7 months prior due to evacuation concerns
-
Voted Yes on Royal Pines development in the same area with the same concerns where citizens did a full live simulation and showed with a droan which was reinforced by professional evacuation simulations.
-
Voted Yes on Arrowswest at the same chokepoint of 2424 GOTG she had denied over evacuation concerns in 2021.
-
As the liaison to PPLD, she did not intervene when the library closures were proposed and denied Councilmember Donelson's request to fund the least for a year or remove the PPLD Board of Trustees who were supporting the closure.
-
Voted Yes on the Amphitheater.
-
Voted Yes on Creekwalk which added 400 apartments and a parking garage at a critical chokepoint with only a summary of the traffic study presented. The actual study, when we finally got it after the vote, showed alarming level of service data.
-
Voted Yes on e-bikes being allowed on TOPS properties.
-
Voted Yes on annexation of Cheyenne Mountain State park for development in Rock Creek Mesa where their local fire chief objected saying it was too dangerous and TOPS properties are supposed to go to a vote for any change like annexation.
-
Voted No on allowing the citizens to vote, or even a discussion, on building height limits dismissing a petition with 6,500 signatories, many in her own district.
